GPO Uniformed Police


Mission. The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) Uniformed Police Branch is the law enforcement component of the GPO Security Services Directorate. Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for personnel and assets at GPO. We achieve this mission by:

  • Reducing security vulnerabilities through procedural changes and security enhancements
  • Conducting random antiterrorism measures (RAMS)
  • Employing law enforcement intelligence
  • Increasing vehicle and foot patrols
  • Conducting response exercises
  • Establishing security requirements for increased Force Protection Conditions/Threat Level

Operations. The GPO Police conduct vehicle patrols, bike patrols and random antiterrorism measures on the streets and buildings adjacent to GPO's main building and within jurisdictional boundaries set forth in the Cooperative Agreements Between Federal Agencies and Metropolitan Police Department and the provisions of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Cooperation Act of 1999. The GPO Police have two 12-hour shifts that are responsible for the following major activities:

  • Promoting the safety and security of employees, the public and designated GPO facilities and operations
  • Vehicle and foot patrols
  • Random antiterrorism measures
  • Access control
  • Perimeter checks
  • Seeking out criminal activity
