HEALTH CARE LAW MOST RETRIEVED
ITEM ON GPO'S FEDERAL DIGITAL SYSTEM

(PDF VERSION OF RELEASE)

WASHINGTON – The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as the health care law, is the most retrieved item in the history of the U.S. Government Printing Office's (GPO) Federal Digital System (FDsys). The health care law has experienced approximately 13 million retrievals since the law was passed in March 2010 and nearly 9 million retrievals in the year 2013. GPO launched FDsys in January 2009 to serve as a one-stop site to authentic, published Government information. Today, FDsys has 900 thousand titles available and has experienced nearly 900 million total retrievals.

"This milestone is a testament to FDsys and its reputation as the best site for access to authentic, published Government information," said Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks. "GPO is committed to serving as the official, digital, and secure provider of Federal Government products and services. FDsys is the backbone of that effort and will continue to serve Congress, Federal agencies, and the public."

FDsys allows GPO to receive information from Federal agencies in all three branches of Government and create a repository for permanent, public access. Examples of content found on FDsys include: the post-President Kennedy's assassination tape recordings, President Nixon's Watergate grand jury testimony, the Budget of the U.S. Government, the Congressional Record, Federal Register, Code of Federal Regulations, and congressional bills, hearings, and reports. GPO is continually adding content and working with agencies on new collection opportunities.

GPO is the Federal Government's official, digital, secure resource for producing, procuring, cataloging, indexing, authenticating, disseminating, and preserving the official information products of the U.S. Government. The GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the Federal Government, including U.S. passports for the Department of State as well as the official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies in digital and print formats. GPO provides for permanent public access to Federal Government information at no charge through our Federal Digital System (www.fdsys.gov), partnerships with approximately 1,200 libraries nationwide participating in the Federal Depository Library Program, and our secure online bookstore.
