Managing Director of Library Services & Content Management


As Managing Director of Library Services and Content Management, Laurie Hall oversees the administration of four major Congressionally-mandated programs: the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), the Cataloging & Indexing Program, the International Exchange Service, and the By-Law Program. Hall provides management support for the implementation of strategic programs and operations in partnership with depository libraries and in collaboration with other U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) business units and Federal agencies.

Biography

Hall has been with GPO for nearly four decades and spent seven years serving as GPO Superintendent of Documents. In this role, she led the Agency in providing public access to Government information.

Other LSCM positions Laurie Hall has held include Director of Library Technical Services, Supervisory Program Analyst, Serials Cataloger, Cataloging Section Chief, Cataloging Branch Chief, and Director of Bibliographic Services. Since 1992, she has worked on key Agency initiatives, including the acquisition of GPO’s first Integrated Library System.

The roles held by Hall since joining GPO have greatly supported the digital transformation of key Agency initiatives. Hall has been part of the task force studying the feasibility of an all-digital FDLP. In addition, she is managing a decade-long collaboration with the Law Library of Congress to digitize and make available volumes of the United States Congressional Serial Set back to the first volume, which was published in 1817.

Hall’s team is also undertaking a massive effort to capture and make publicly accessible every U.S. Government document through the National Collection of U.S. Government Public Information (National Collection), which includes authentic messages and Papers of the Presidents for Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln and much more.

Hall was the recipient of the 2021 Raymond Von Dran Memorial Award from the Catholic University of America (CUA) Library and Information Science (LIS) Alumni Association.

Prior to arrival at GPO, Hall worked in a variety of corporate, public, and academic libraries. She began working with the Federal Depository Library Program while working in the documents collection at Georgetown University, Lauinger Library.

Hall earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art History and American Studies at the University of Virginia and her Master’s degree in Library Science at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
