GPO’s digital content solutions include access through a searchable public website, long-term digital preservation, and multiple processes to ensure content integrity is maintained over time.

Searchable Public Website

  • Free public access on govinfo, GPO’s newly redesigned, modern, mobile-friendly website with an individual web page for each publication that provides a summary, content files, and associated metadata files.
  • govinfo offers robust search capabilities: full-text keyword search, complex query search, advanced search over 8 fields, and a search result display with sorting and filtering.
  • Premium options available for displaying, browsing, and featuring content.
  • govinfo provides increased discoverability and enhanced public access to agency electronic publications.

Digital Signature Technology

  • All PDF files on govinfo are digitally signed and certified and display GPO’s visible Seal of Authenticity.
  • GPO also offers an automated service to apply digital signatures to agency PDF files separately from the govinfo ingest workflow.
  • Through this service, agencies are able to securely transfer PDF files to GPO to be digitally signed and returned for agency use, thereby reducing agency program costs, garnering confidence, and meeting customer needs for secure electronic information.

Long-Term Preservation

  • Preservation in GPO’s ISO 16363 certified Trustworthy Digital Repository.
  • Mechanisms for maintaining content integrity and ensuring a trusted chain of custody assure users that content is official, complete, and unaltered since being disseminated by GPO.
  • Regular backups at GPO’s separate Continuity of Operations (COOP) site.
  • The COOP remote disaster recovery site retains near-real-time data synchronization and five-minute failover capability with full content availability and system functionality in order to limit downtime.
